On March 18, the iBreakfast and iEvening are launching Job Generation, a new program that turns the start-up pitching concept on its head. Instead of entrepreneurs asking gray-haired executives for funding, those same executives are now asking the young kids for jobs – while profit-driven venture capitalists assist as matchmakers.

The goals of this real-world exercise are to generate jobs and grow companies. ‘Job Generation’ also alludes to the pressing need for two generations to come together if the US is to remain competitive globally; for young entrepreneurs with great ideas to be mashed up with senior executives with business experience. Think Google, which might have been nothing more than a couple of smart guys with a cool algorithm had it not been for the arrival of Eric Schmidt.

Job Generation accelerates the kickstarting process by giving senior executives an opportunity to showcase their talents while also giving start-ups a forum to get feedback from experienced business people. It’s a sort of ‘Shark Tank’ in reverse, where the kids with their new ideas have the power, and the seniors have to do the asking. Read More...

Are these two somehow related? Not sure. Not going there. But there should be a joke in there, somewhere.

Good morning, all, and Happy Valentine’s Day – soon, and this time they weren’t kidding. We actually have serious snow in NYC. Which means The Hive happy hour has been rescheduled, for the benefit of those of us who don’t have huskies and a flask of brandy to make it through.

Well, we’ll leave it at the huskies. Read More...

Good morning, All,

Punit Shah is President of NU Entrepreneurs Club and Co-Organizer of Husky Innovation Challenge (HuskyEntrepreneurs.com). He’s also a student at Northeastern – and SOS member – and late last week he invited his NUEC members to join our list. And happy you all are here!

Yes, we will have another SOS gathering later this month in NYC – details to come – but since we do have a number of requests today, without further ado, help is on the way… Read More...

Ok, so New York only got a sprinkling, but I’ll take it.

Good morning, All, and some news for you. I spent the early part of this week at the Always On OnMedia conference (we won’t talk about the fact that there was no wireless network, so not everyone was Always On). That aside, the conference organizers told me that they’re always looking for new startups to feature at their conferences, especially at their conferences in New York and Palo Alto. So, we’re going to post an ‘elevator pitch’ section on the site (soon) as the aforementioned organizers want to be in the loop on what the StartupOneStop entrepreneurs are…starting up. Cool beans!

Lots of posts today, and luckily, help is on the way… Read More...

And then it hits and it all comes back to us, what, eh? And to the non-New Yorkers in sunnier climes (that haven’t unexpectedly been hit by snow) – lucky you!

Good morning, All, and just a few posts today, although I need to mention something. Lately, I’ve gotten emails from a few of you that you’ve been unsubscribed by our hosted mail server. It wasn’t me, and my apologies. If you just resubscribe, they don’t seem to do it a second time. WHEW.

It’s Social Media Week in NYC and if any out-of-towners on the list happen to be in the city for it – we’d love to meet you! Ping me and I’m sure low-key drinks can be arranged. Read More...

Good morning, All, and our thanks to everyone who came to our first SOS network/elevator pitch event last night at Connolly’s. Just for the record – techstartups.com did the elevator pitch shoots – in the elevator. Absolutely inspired, and the videos should be up at techstartups.com. And once again, our thanks to Daria and Brian from the hive @ 55 for sponsoring. (http://www.hiveat55.com) is Lower Manhattan’s coworking space, where freelancers and small business owners can find all the resources they need, plus a community of independent professionals.

Connections where made. Business got done. And we will do it again – with more notice next time. Third Tuesdays of the month sound good? Ok, done.

And for now, help is on the way… Read More...

Good morning, All, and it’s at Connelly’s, 121 West 45th Street, 3rd Floor and there’s an elevator.

It’s $10 at the door and our thanks once again to our sponsor www.hiveat55.com– Lower Manhattan’s coworking space for freelancers and small business owners. Find all the resources you need, plus a community of independent professionals – convenient to all subways. Always helps and check them out – and the first drink’s on them for underfunded startups. Techstartups.com will also be there to interview you – privately – and record your elevator pitch to post on their site, so practice, practice, practice. Or wing it. I usually do.

There’s an answer to that: because there is no downtime in the startup world.

Good morning, All, and yes, we do have a link for the event – just so we know who’s coming: http://startuponestop.eventbrite.com/.

It’s next Wednesday night – January 27th at 6.30 in midtown. $10 at the door – and the first drink is gratis for underfunded startups, thanks to our sponsor – The Hive at 55 ( www.hiveat55.com). And techstartups.com will be there to memorialize your startup and post the videos on their site. Read More...

Good morning, All, and it’s mostly about announcements today.

We’re confirmed: the first StartupOneStop gathering will be Wednesday, January 27, 6.30-9.00 pm at Connelly’s, 121 West 45th Street, 3rd Floor. And there is an elevator, not to worry. It’s $10 at the door and the first drink is free to underfunded startups. The space accommodates up to 400 people, so we should have lots of room to network and mill around. And hope to see you there!

Our thanks to Daria and Brian from The Hive at 55 for sponsoring, and don’t forget to bring your elevator pitch. Techstartups.com will be there to tape you (individually) and post the video on their site. Read More...

Good morning, All, and I know, took me a while. So it goes – and it’s StartupOneStop if you want to become a fan. Post. Start discussions. It might be time, what, eh?

Speaking of which, been thinking about this for a while, but I need you all to contribute your .02: I’ve thought about sending out an email – maybe once a month, and separate from the postings list – called C .02., and the basic idea is that it’s advice from a C level sort. Would like some of you to share experiences, advice, war stories, success stories – and how you managed it – or didn’t – and what you’d do next time. Or now. Or never again. You don’t really have to be C level and yes, it is one of those double entendres. C02 – carbon dioxide aka hot air. Former copywriter, remember? There’s no such thing as an accident. So, if you want to submit something for it, send it to hello@startuponestop.com. Sure, we could call it ‘Notes from the Corner Office,’ if you’d like, but most of us are startups and lucky to have a corner, much less a corner office. We’ll get there.

For now, help is on the way… Read More...
