Good morning, All, and before it’s over – the summer, that is – some summer reading for startups:

This past Friday, Dave McClure outlined his investment thesis on his blog, Master of 500 Hats. Worth the read: http://bit.ly/cQLeLF

FYI, McClure just filed with the SEC for his own venture fund, 500 Startups, (http://tcrn.ch/aDa0CK)- and, among other things, also leads a travel group called GeeksOnaPlane to promote cultural exchange & education for tech entrepreneurs around the world. Read More...

Good morning, All, and our thanks to all of you who attended ‘Find A Co-Founder II’ last night – and all of you who were with us in spirit. And yes, we do hope to expand it into other cities, for all of you who sent us your requests. Working on it, and any help you can offer on that front – we’re listening.

The next NY event will be sometime in mid-September. And again, a special thank you to our sponsors – New York Angels, PepsiCo and HodgsonRuss – who help to make it all possible!

We do get a number of requests for recommendations on outsourcing and thought this might be of interest to you. It’s an article about outsourcing to Argentina, which happens to be in the same time zone as New York. And for those of you in SV, time difference is still preferable to those of other countries we’re more accustomed to working with. The full article is here: http://bit.ly/bxlWdY Read More...

Yup, you all!

And a few others like you, no doubt.

Good morning, All, and that’s according to a Kauffman Foundation study (http://bit.ly/byg7Kh). They also cite that older companies lose 1 million jobs annually. Read More...

Good morning, All,

First, our thanks to our barbeque sponsors – 1099partners.com and the beer and burgers were great, and the networking was piece de resistance (remember: it was Bastille Day). Then again, it really is always about the people, isn’t it?

Speaking of which, we’d like to thank all of you for all of the information you send us – and/or tweet – which we happily disseminate to hopefully help you. Most of all, thank you for taking the time to help each other! Read More...

Good morning, All,

One of our SV-based list members sent us some information about two organizations that might be helpful to you startups out there – or to those of you who are considering moving out there, or going on a funding junket:

Bay Area Startup Network (BASN – www.basn.org) is a growing association in the San Francisco Bay Area focused on helping early stage entrepreneurs build successful companies. Although focused mostly on technology, BASN events and membership draw from all sectors of industry including medical devices and cleantech. Bay Area Startup Network is also the umbrella organization for USAngelInvestors, a private investor group that meets once a month in Palo Alto, CA. They’re both by invitation, but an email link is available on their sites to secure an invite. Our source in SV told us that startups pitch – and angels right checks on the spot. Read More...

but some things can’t wait.

Good morning, All, deadlines are coming up, so we decided to send out just a few posts this week. There are usually more, but there are some events coming up that you should know about, so part deux:

First, the Fast Company influencers Project and your chance to be on the November cover of Fast Company. Fast Company is searching for 2010’s most influential person online. More information here: http://bit.ly/aGX8mt #smm Read More...

Good morning, All,

Speaking of independence, make sure to read the first post – yes, the telcos and cable companies are at it again (and we won’t even get into the internet kill switch) trying to control what you do online. FYI, there is a category for small businesses and from what we’ve been told, the prizes are going to be great. They want authentic users voices and hoping some of you out there decide to go for it and showcase your talents. Jacob. For one. And you Cali-based members – we know some of you work in entertainment.

Since the week following July 4th is the biggest vacation week of the year (true), we’ll most likely only do one mailing next week. Some of you have asked us to hold off on your posts until after that anyway but we know that the startup world (almost) never takes off – or sleeps – so happy to accommodate anyone and everyone we can – where and when possible. Good morning, All,

Ok, a few weeks ago, SAI reported that NYC VCs were outpacing SV VCs in investments. Yesterday, they reported that the Valley’s day in the sun is over, thanks to two angel investors from Chicago who helped found Groupon and Mediabank. If you’d like to read on: http://bit.ly/agcJMV And they’re looking for more investments. Midwest-based members, definitely worth a read.

Speaking of angels, and since Thursday seems to be becoming the Read More...
